Beat the Blerch 2014: The View from the Bearded Blerch

Being a Blerch on a Couch

I was a Blerch at Beat the Blerch 2014. This was definitely the sweetest race volunteer job I’ve ever had.  The job description: Wear a Blerch Suit, encourage people to slow down and take a break, give out cake, and hang out with awesome people on a couch on the side of the trail!  Ummm… yes!

As a runner, there are times when people ask me about why I run long distances. Sometimes I talk about the fun of it, and I get the “oh, I could never find running fun” response.  I wish the people that could never find running fun had met all the people at Beat the Blerch! I had an amazing time sitting on that old, sweat-soaked couch with those amazing runners.  Thanks to everyone who sat with me, took a little power-nap, had a slice of cake, or gave the Blerch a high-five!  You’re all the best.

Some of My Favorite Visitor Photos!

I wasn’t expecting to pose for so many photos. I’m sure there are many I’ll never see, but here a few of my favorites that I found!
